When Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 says that the new Battle Royale Blackout map has no barriers, they’re not kidding — you can run, climb, or cross through just about every inch of the map. There are no invisible barriers blocking you, and that’s quite a change from many of the maps we’re used to playing in standard CoD multiplayer. Blackout isn’t just a standard Battle Royale map — every single named area is actually based on a previous map in the storied history of the franchise.
And here, we’re going to take a look at all 14 areas. I’ll give a quick rundown of what you can expect in each zone, and what maps inspired the locations listed. Some of these maps have been changed considerably from their inspiration, while others are an almost carbon copy — we’re looking at you, Asylum.

#1: Construction Site

Refences: High-Rise, Die Rise (Black Ops 2)

The beautiful high-rise construction site is a popular destination in the game, and also one of the most complex. The area is wide-open and there are plentiful items to loot, even if the spacious interiors / exterior courtyards don’t give you much room to hide.
Use the exterior lifts to reach the upper floors where you might just find a helicopter parked on the helipad. The upper floors are a sniper’s paradise, and you’ll be able to (safely) spot runners from this lordly perch. There’s no higher vantage point in Blackout.

#2: Estate

References: Raid (Black Ops 2)

This pair of competing estates feature complex interiors, and plenty of courtyard cover when crossing from one estate to the other. You’ll find luxurious swimming pools, and a very familiar layout on the west side. It’s a transplant of the “Raid” map from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Instead of FBI exchanging bullets with mercs, you’ll trade fire with everyone else.
The map is a mixture of medium-range courtyards (center garden, pool) and twisty interiors with plenty of doors separating each space. The ‘Raid’ section of the map is more open, while the mansion on the east side is a large self-contained home, so most of the fighting will probably happen inside. Just don’t stand too close to the many, many windows.
